Food importers and exporters need to show that each traded lot meets the requirements of its destination market. Products entering the European Union must comply with EU law, while exports may face additional requirements set by the importing country or the buyer.
What we test
We test lots of raw materials and finished products for contaminants such as mycotoxins and heavy metals, pesticide residues, microbiological indicators and pathogens, as well as the physico-chemical quality parameters named in the contract or product specification. For imported products intended for the Romanian market we can also check whether the label information meets the applicable requirements.
The test set depends on the product type, the country of origin and the contract terms. We can help you identify the parameters that matter for each lot.
Regulatory framework
The general principles of food law are set by Regulation (EC) No 178/2002, and official controls, including controls on imports, by Regulation (EU) 2017/625. Maximum levels for contaminants are laid down in Regulation (EU) 2023/915, maximum residue levels for pesticides in Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, and microbiological criteria in Regulation (EC) No 2073/2005. Labelling is governed by Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.
How we work
Samples are taken from the lot according to the agreed plan and registered on receipt with the lot’s identification details. Results are issued in a test report that can accompany your commercial documents. Accredited tests are marked as such on the report and are those listed in the annex to our RENAR accreditation certificate.
